Botox & Dysport Therapies
Botulinum toxin (Botox) injections is a widely used and safe approach to treat expression lines when administered by experienced dermatologists or plastic surgeons to avoid any undesirable side effects such as ptosis (droopy eyelids) because of overdose or incorrect application.
Botox is categorized as ‘protein’ and although it is made by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum through its Botulinum toxin, it offers many medical and cosmetic solutions when used correctly and in the right quantity.
As a drug, it targets the communication between the nervous system and the muscles. Each Botox injection prevents the release of acetylcholine temporarily, and thus the contraction of the muscles in the area of application. The muscles stop contracting progressively once the drug is administered, and the effect lasts up to 6 months.
Botox in our practice is used to treat wrinkles and expression lines around the eyes and between the eye brows, on the forehead, on the area above the upper lip, on the chin area, and on the neck .
In Europe, two different types of Botulinum toxins are offered (FDA and EMA approval), distinguished by their molecular weight:
- Onabotulinumtoxin A (Botox)
- ΑbobotulinumtoxinA (Dysport)
We offer Botox treatments using both types but we prefer using Dysport because the application results remain at a satisfactory standard up to 6 months and are visible soon enough (from day 3).
You will achieve a much better and natural overall result if you adhere to a treatment plan of 2 to 3 applications per year, consistently over time.
ΜΥTH 1: Injections hurt
The application of Botox requires a small needle. If you feel any pain at all, that can only be minimal and short-lived!
You can even have a Botox treatment during your lunch break. Just let them wonder once you are back at work!
ΜYTH 2: Your face becomes ‘frozen’
The ‘frozen face’ look is usually the result of overdose or incorrect application probably from someone not experienced as an experienced dermatologist or plastic surgeon would mind the safe and correct points as well as the right doze depending on the need, urgency and general condition of the patient.
ΜΥTH 3: If I stop my Botox therapy, my face will become worse
Our experience using Dysport has taught us that actually the aging process is delayed. However, after the drug’s effect has stopped, the muscles start working progressively but your face will not become worse. You will still have a younger looking face due to the therapeutic regime followed (depending on the treatment plan and its duration).
ΜΥTH 4: The more Botox treatments you follow, the less the drug’s effect over time
Actually, it is the opposite! You definitely receive the benefits of accumulative treatments’ effect, stopping the creation of permanent and deep wrinkles.
ΜΥTH 5: I need to be at least 40 years old to start Botox treatments
Botox treatments are a safe choice even at a younger age especially if you frequently make strong facial expressions that inevitably result into creases and wrinkles.
Prevention is so important in Health and Beauty!
If you start a Dysport treatment plan before you reach 40, it can only mean that when you reach your 40th year of age, you will not have a tired-looking and wrinkled skin (provided a wider care routine too).
